O’68 Rockstars in Pijamas La Virgen – La Madre Soldadera
O’68 is a project that investigates the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and the student protests happening at the time. Developed in collaboration with AZ Factory, this project explores the visual collision between the graphics and the progress occurring during the Olympics, while contrasting it with the brutality and resistance of the student-led movement. For the garments, I took inspiration from the 1968 Olympic staff uniforms, while combining them with graphic prints adapted from the student movement anti- brutality propaganda. By blending the technical aspects of sportswear and 1960’s haute couture, these garments navigate the duality that Mexico City was going through at the time, which culminated on October 2nd in Tlatelolco, with one of the most tragic massacres in Mexican history. O’68, therefore, serves as a reflection of this progressive but hurtful moment in Mexican history, translated into a wearable resistance.
